Meet Our Instructors
Ms. Kara
Kara McIntyre began dancing in Tulsa, OK at the age of 4. She quickly developed a love for dance, with a focus on ballet, jazz and contemporary styles. She participated in four seasons of Tulsa Ballet's "The Nutcracker" as well as their summer workshop "Pointe to the Future".
While in high school, Kara was a member of the pom squad and began assisting classes at her dance studio. Kara attended the University of Oklahoma where she majored in Communications. During her four years in college, she taught dance for a local company and it was there that her love for teaching children grew.
She worked in Corporate Communications in Tulsa before her husband took a job in Enid. She began working at Stalcup Dance in the fall of 2011. In 2018 she took over as owner and director of the studio and renamed it Kara McIntyre Dance Company.
Shelley Stevenson's mother, Mary Alice Stalcup, introduced her to the dance floor before she was able to walk. Her summers as a youth were spent traveling to various places, including Los Angeles and New York, where she studied dance and was exposed to many great choreographers.
Shelley continued her education at the University of Oklahoma, where she received her BA degree with a minor in dance. Upon graduation, she returned to Enid to join the teaching staff at Stalcup Dance alongside her mother. In addition to her teaching position at Stalcup (then named the Mary Alice Stalcup School of Dance), Shelley owned and operated her own studios in Hennessey, Kingfisher, and Alva (all in Oklahoma) from 1985 to 2002.
Shelley has also served as judge and choreographer for many dance competitions and pageants over the years. Her knowledge and love of dance is well-known and greatly appreciated in the dance and performance community.
Ms. Shelley
Ms. Amanda
Amanda discovered her love of dance at the age of three. She trained in ballet, jazz and tap in her hometown of Pecatonica, Illinois, where she later went on to become a dance instructor.
In high school, Amanda danced on the pom team. While attending Rock Valley College, she was a member of their spirit squad. During that time, she also danced professionally for her AHL hockey team, the Rockford Icehogs.
Her love of dance extended to the world of musical theatre where she performed as a featured dancer and had the privilege of working as the choreographer for several musical productions.
Life as an Air Force spouse brought many moves to many states and Amanda was glad to be able to instruct again during their time in Texas. Since moving to Enid, her role in dance has been that of "Dance Mom." She is excited and grateful to be instructing again at KMDC, as well as taking on the new position of Assistant Director.
